Barnard alumnae are able to audit most Barnard classes at no cost. Auditing a course provides a wonderful chance to continue your Barnard education, but does not provide academic credit. Approval of the instructor is required, and some classes are restricted. Alumnae are encouraged to obtain the instructor's permission during registration week or during the first week of classes; however, there is no formal deadline for registration.
To view the Barnard Course Catalog, visit catalog.barnard.edu.
Just like when you were a student, you can still take classes across the street since many courses at Columbia University are open for auditing through the School of Professional Studies. Tuition for the auditing program is $2400 per course, and alumnae who are 65 or older may audit through the Lifelong Learners Program for $750 per course. For permission to audit courses, to view the courses open to auditors, for fee information, and for enrollment information and procedures, visit the School of Professional Studies Auditing Programs site.
As an alumna of Barnard College, you are always a valuable asset to your employer. One of those ways is that as a Barnard alumna, you - and up to four colleagues in your organization - are eligible for a 25 percent tuition benefit on any Columbia Business School Executive Education program of six days or less, within calendar year 2009.
Scholarships and Fellowships
Barnard emphasizes academic excellence and achievement. It has led women's colleges in the percentage of alumnae who pursue graduate degrees in all fields. In keeping with this tradition, the Alumnae Association offers fellowships each year for graduate study. Many past recipients have gone on to achieve distinction in their chosen fields.
Free reading and borrowing privileges for alumnae with the Barnard Alumnae ID card. Please note that alumnae cannot renew books online, but must renew books in person at the library from which they took the books. Access to electronic databases is available at library computer terminals.
Access to Columbia University Libraries require an additional ID card. Cards only provide Barnard Alumnae with free visiting privileges. For those interested, there is a further opportunity to purchase borrowing privileges for Columbia University libraries for $30/month. To obtain a Columbia Library ID card please go to Room 201, Butler Library. For anything that's password protected, alumnae may purchase access through Columbia's Library Information Office. However, free access is available at the public terminals in Butler. Library Information Office:

Alumnae interested in changing careers, exploring new interests, or preparing for admission to graduate or professional schools may take Barnard courses for credit. Former Barnard students who withdrew at least five years ago and are now interested in completing an A.B. degree may also apply to the Resumed Education Program. Students can take a part-time or full-time program and pay only for the number of points taken plus a readmission fee of $100. For post-baccalaureate students, there is a ten percent reduction in tuition. For further information, contact Dean Aaron Schneider, Dean of Studies Office, 105 Milbank Hall, 212-854-2024.
